Not what I expected

This chess board was overpriced. It was essentially just printed on a plain piece of plywood, and I wouldn’t recommend it. When I returned it, I didn’t receive a full refund (which I suppose was written in some confirmation email, but I still haven’t found the clause).

Budget Modern

I was looking for a modern wood chess set with integral storage for my husband's birthday. Style-wise, I'm obsessed with the Bauhaus and Man Ray designs, but this board along with the 3 1/2" Contemporary Chessman fit much better in the budget. However, you get what you pay for, and the quality did not blow me away. The description says Black and Maple Veneer, which means that the veneer is maple with painted black squares. You can see wavy lines where the paint job was not perfect, and two black squares arrived scratched. I'm concerned it will quickly look beaten up with use. But my husband likes it, so it will do for now--until the Man Ray is in reach.
