Handcrafted from oak, sycamore, and cherry, the magnat chess set represents the historical importance of a nobleman or person of power. This chess set brings some wonderfully unique characters that remind one of centuries old rules and their echelons of power.

Alphanumeric notation on the light borders of the chess board helps those replaying or recording chess moves. The folding chess board has an insert tray fitting the chessmen very well, which allows the chess pieces storage inside. The board is hand crafted in Poland from beech and birch woods.

Large Magnat Style Chess Set With Storage

We ordered this set for our grandson, who - thanks (of course) to 'The Queen's Gambit' - has renewed an old interest in beating Grandmother at chess, and has asked for a chess set for Christmas. This quite large set arrived promptly and in perfect condition. It is beautifully crafted and the faces on the pieces are so appealing. The board, which folds and stores its ladies, gentlemen, and humble pawns in individual, felt-lined bowls in its interior (and gently accommodating even the delicate lances of the pawns), is gorgeous set up on a table. This board calls for players to play! The heft and consequent sound of a member of the Court being moved and placed on a square is exceedingly satisfying - a very nice, felt-softened "thonk."

Though Grandson is the most beloved creation in her world, Grandmother is having a bit of difficulty wrapping the set, in anticipation of relinquishing it.
She is able to go forth only in the hope that her personal vanquishment at Grandson's hand will be a couple or three years in the making!
