About The Raised Edge Style 21" Hardwood Player's Chessboard 2.25" Squares JLP, USA

Players, admirers, and those who enjoy well-made products will appreciate the workmanship evident in this chess board that is ready to pair with a variety of suitably sized chess pieces.

It is handcrafted in Pennsylvania from locally sourced premium walnut and maple woods. It takes months from drying, curing, cutting, and assembly to the perfect multi-coat finish that gives it the luxurious and distringuished smooth surface.

Each board is crafted to near perfection and various styles are accomplished with the perimeter design. The Raised Edge JLP chessboard slanted panel perimeter highlights the square's edge in addition to the chess board surface.

The artist is from a Pennsylvania family with a rich heritage of woodworking and farming passed down through five generations originating in Switzerland. The lost art of woodworking is continually refined, blending timeless methods with the latest knowledge on living wood behavior. Wood is "living" after it is cut down, not a rigid block. Due to the circular ringed nature of a tree, the direction of cuts is very important to the natural expansion and contraction of the wood as humidity levels change from one environment to another. This unique expansion of both woods used in this work of art, require great attention in every phase of production.

The 21" square chess board with 2.25" squares and 3/4" thickness is ideally suited to standard 3 3/4" to 4 1/2" tall chess men with a base no larger than 2"

Excellent Quality and Beautiful Board

This board exceeded our expectations! From the moment we unboxed it we were in love. The beauty of the board makes playing chess even more of a delight. If you want a quality playing field this board will make you happy.

Color is different and has corner damage

This board is super nice aside from two issues…It’s flat on my table, and appears very well made but a corner was dinged in. The second is the images of the color. The images are very saturated in color. orange or red maybe? Either way, the dark squares are brown and not really the colorful brown in the pics. But it’s still beautiful if the corner wasn’t dinged.

JLP Raised edge 21"- 2.25 sq.

I received my JLP Raised edge board last week, and it is a beautiful piece of wood. The finish and craftsmanship, are impeccable. It came in on Wed., shipped on Thursday, and I received it the next day --- luckily I am only about 100 miles away in Monroe. Service at the Chesshouse was impeccable as always, Paul took fantastic care of me. I have been dealing with the Chesshouse over 20years, they always take excellent care of their customers.

The "Raised Edge" board, is quite nice, and the craftmanship as you would expect is beautiful. The board is a lot lighter, than I expected. I had bought a Drueke years ago, from the Chesshouse, and that board is way heavier, and bulkier, as well as a 20" Shersham board I bought a few years back from ChessH (both solid boards are heavier). This raised edge board is more refined, and easier to move about, so I don't think I am going to miss the extra weight and bulk. So, If you are after a massive, and heavy board pick one of the other JLP boards, but if you think you would enjoy having this raised playing service , and a more refined board you will be very pleased with the "Raised Edge"...... Iam!

Thanks again, Paul and Raphael.....
