Three player chess is born out of the traditional two player chess game. It does not seek to be a mathematically similar to the traditional two player game, rather, for the piece movements to be exactly the same. In fact the only different things are that three players can play and there are two basic rules to remember when moving around the middle six squares.

I purchased this set out of curiosity and must admit, I am still curious as to the rules of this game. Of the set construction, I am much pleased. The pieces are all solid and feel weighted, the board, lies flat even after being rolled. but this is more than chess with 3 players, if you wish to play seriously, there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered such as what path the bishops take across the board an how if at all en passant works. I would have liked there to be a page explaining these and other variations to the standard set beyond the obvious “3rd army” now on the board.

A Great Value

The largest 3 person chess board out there making the playing field less crowded and the game more enjoyable. Pieces are weighted and felted and solid. The mat stayed flat after rolling it out. The carry case is a nice addition allowing for easy carry. Overall a good value!

Awesome set

I really like this chess set. The board rolls up into this nice carrying bag, making it easy for transport. The pieces are in their own plastic bags to keep them together as well. The board is much bigger than I was expecting so it’s more dinner table play than coffee table table play, but that’s okay. It doesn’t come with rules but they aren’t hard to find. I also really like that my set with 17 pieces per colour, with an extra queen. Before we’ve always had to use something else when a pawn promoted but this is so convenient. I can’t wait to play this with my kids
