I am learning strategy so I can "teach" the game of chess to an eight year old . The pieces have a great feel moving around the board (weighted with felt bottoms). The row and file markings could be less pronounced and the letters lower case for positioning (i.e., Ke4) . This beginner set will work as a gift to capture each game unfold whilst watching from above.
Overall I am very pleased with this chess set. I find it nice to look at and a good size for both playing and using as a decorative piece. My only complaint is that the felt pads under a majority of the pieces were not placed in the center of the piece, so some pieces are a little slanted and can look odd when on the board.
My 11 yr old grandson loves this chess set.
The chess set is very fine quality.
