We love the rich, reddish brown and light wood colors that compliment each other nicely between chessboard and pieces. With a slight "western" flavor, roped designs are carved into the entire board. The quality and uniqueness of this board make it an outstanding gift chess set for play at home or as a decorative chess set. This medium-size folding solid wood chess set will last for years, and be a sweet addition to any collection.

In addition to the rare "algebraic" coordinates on this non-magnetic chessboard, a rarity in wood chess boards, you also have the opposing light and dark queen features, where the white king and queen have black tips, and likewise with the black king and queen.

Although I was looking for a simpler style The board looks nice, however there is a very fowl odor to the wood and the green holder is very flimsy and doesn’t hold the pieces well, they were all scattered when I opened to review. I was goping for a softer but firmer hold to the pieces more like a foam

Quality product

My Chess fanatic grandson loves his new board. Very nice. Late shipping was our only complaint. Promised 12/22 arrived 12/27.

Good looking set

Purchased this for my several children, who have taken a liking to chess in recent days. It's a handsome set, nothing extremely fancy (nor did I expect it to be). Thick felt on the bottom of each of the pieces makes for a pleasant feel to the pieces moving across the board.

I also much prefer purchasing from a small retailer like Chess House rather than certain online giants.

Nice set @ a reasonable price

The board and pieces are relatively light and well made. The set is pretty portable, while being more substantial than most "travel" sets. The only complaint I have, and I've seen others mention this as well, is the plastic tray that holds the pieces. It's *very* flimsy.
