How does this compare to the MIL806 (Karpov Chess School)?

The Chess Master II and the Karpov Chess School computer differ primarily in the game options they offer. While the Chess Master II goes beyond chess by including checkers and a variety of additional games (detailed in the manual linked below), the Karpov Chess School computer focuses on chess-related game options (like 30 Min, 5 Min Blitz, 'rated' game and more).

Awesome learning tool

Used to play a lot of chess but got rusty over the years. Getting back into it with this unit has been a joy. Practicing against the computer opponent is a great way to refresh and learn strategy. It's cool that it tells you when to pay extra attention to your next move or if you've just made a potentially poor move (if you're me, that's often 😂). Physically, the board is very capable of holding the pieces magnetically; you can even flip it upside-down and the pieces remain on board! All said, this unit is a fantastic value for the price

Computer takes WAY too long to think. Practically impossible to use.

I bought in store at a Barnes and Noble for my kid. The first couple games went okay. Then we increased the computer's difficulty and suddenly the computer is taking 10+ minutes between turns. My kid would walk away and come back and find it at 15 minutes of thinking. Completely unusable, unless you want to play a 5 hour chess match. Worst part, Barnes and Noble isn't honoring a return on this defective product.

Also, agreed with another reviewer, the tutor function is busted. It warns you of a bad move, and no buttons we press will continue with the move it's threatening to make. However, if you press the X, it'll jump back to thinking and make a completely different move, thereby not actually following through with the move it threatened.

Not as advertised

I’m so disappointed! Magnets do not hold the pieces to the board. Can’t play through a game of chess. For some reason after a few moves it has a be careful message and won’t allow anymore moves. All it does is beep even though it is a legal move. I’m working on getting a refund. The quality is very poor.
